A symbolic monument to Swedish fans in the form of hugging numbers 1 and 2 figures will be set up at Trukhaniv Island in Kyiv in summer.

As the press service of Kyiv city state administration reported, on Tuesday the winners were chosen of a flash-contest for the best design for a park sculpture to commemorate the Swedish guest-football fans, who in summer 2012 came to Kyiv for matches of their national team in Euro 2012.

“At the beginning of June, the capital will celebrate the anniversary of Euro 2012. First of all, we’ll hold a Swedish-Ukrainian rock festival, and will set up an interesting park sculpture. We want as many tourists as possible to visit us, and the Swedes are friends who left good memories of themselves and came back home with positive memories about Kyiv. Even the campsite at Trukhaniv Island became special, as it was put in the Ukrainian Book of Records,” head of Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Popov said at a ceremony to announce the results of the contest.

According to the administration’s press service, the work of creative duet Kostiantyn Skretutsky and Fedir Balandin were declared the best. The proposed sculpture personifies hugs of one figure (1) in the colors of the Swedish flag and a second figure in the colors of the Ukrainian flag (2). It symbolizes the year of the holding of the Euro championship in Ukraine, the score in the match between Ukraine and Sweden, as well as the number of the football fan – the twelfth player of any team.

Ukrainian judges, as well as representatives of Sweden Fan Association, chose this work.

In general 18 works from 12 creative Kyiv collectives participated in the contest, which started at the end of January.
