You're reading: Lifestyle Blog: Kyiv woman unimpressed by killer tree (VIDEO)

This short video from Feb. 22 blew up across social networks in Ukraine. The accident happened in one of the yards on Dmitriyevska street in central Kyiv and was captured by the DVR camera of a parked car.

In the video, a middle-aged woman is seen leaving an apartment building and heading toward trash cans with a bag of garbage in her hand. When the woman comes near the containers, a big tree crashes on them, missing her by what seems like a couple of inches.

What happens next is amazing. The woman stumbles for a second, brushes herself off, throws her garbage into a container and heads away as if nothing special happened. Leaving, she doesn’t even look at the giant tree that almost killed her, but mends her hair a little bit.

Commentators from YouTube, where video had over 150,000 views, joked this was actually a commercial for sedative meds.

The Ukrainian video can easily compete with Russian ones from car cameras, a collection of which was shown in a recent episode of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, called “How I Meteored Your Motherland.” Stewart found it surprising how Russians are indifferent to all the crazy things they see in the course of their daily lives. Well, he should see the “I-despise-falling-trees” Kyivan woman.
