The State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine has received a letter from the German Embassy with a request to facilitate a meeting of German Government Commissioner for Human Rights Markus Loening with the jailed former interior minister, Yuriy Lutsenko, on April 10-12.

Such a meeting falls under the provisions of Article 12 of the Ukrainian law on pre-trial detention. At the same time, Lutsenko’s case is currently considered by the Court of Appeal of Kyiv. In this regard, the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine is ready to provide assistance in organizing the meeting, provided that the Court of Appeals of Kyiv issues permission for it, the agency’s press service reported on Monday, Apr. 9.

The prison service said it received the letter on April 2.
