The policy of the Ukrainian government should be clear to the public, and social protection should be effective, First Deputy Prime Minister and Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Serhiy Arbuzov has said.

“The main goal, as the head of state said, is a clear government
policy and support for vulnerable people so that people understand us,
and so that we understand the problems and resolve them in this
difficult time,” he said, while introducing newly appointed Social
Policy Minister Natalia Korolevska on Monday.

Arbuzov said that Korolevska was an experienced politician and
specialist and that her skills could come in handy in current
conditions.

He said that the economic situation in the country was currently very difficult.

“The crisis is already in our country. As you know, the problem of
foreign markets is integrated into Ukraine very quickly. Therefore, I
believe that we’re facing the task of correcting this situation,”
Arbuzov said.

Korolevska, in turn, noted that she sees the creation of an effective
system of social protection and the prevention of new mistakes as her
goal.

“We understand perfectly well that there has been no social policy of
this kind in Ukraine over the 21 years [of its independence],” she
said.

She noted that the program of her activities would be presented in
the near future, but she refused to comment on when salaries of EUR
1,000 will be paid in Ukraine.

As reported, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych appointed
Korolevska as Ukraine’s social policy minister. Korolevska is the leader
of the Ukraine-Forward! Party, which did not win seats in parliament in
the recent elections.

This summer she presented her book entitled “A New Economy – A New
Country,” which sets out the main provisions of a plan of economic
reforms, the implementation of which will help ensure average salaries
of EUR 1,000 and pensions of EUR 500 in Ukraine within five years.
