Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has rebuked Education, Science, Youth and Sports Minister Dmytro Tabachnyk after teachers staged a protest outside the cabinet building.

"Yesterday teachers were picketing the Cabinet of Ministers with the demands which the government had in fact considered and satisfied three months ago. This is confirmation of the irresponsibility of the profile ministry and local administrations that finance educational establishments," he said, opening a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

The premier said he was displeased that Tabachnyk had failed to settle the complaints of teachers that forced them to take to the streets.

"I’m very dissatisfied with the fact that you failed to solve this issue in time. You did not even come out to the teachers, did not find the required words for your own people. I issue a strict warning to you," Azarov said.

Ukrainian teachers in Kyiv and some regions earlier held protest events, complaining about their unsatisfactory social and economic conditions.
