You're reading: Azarov promises no force will be used against peaceful protesters

Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has urged protesters not to provoke law enforcers and reassured them that force will not be used against peaceful demonstrators.

“I would argue that there is no problem that would cause protests and opposition, for which it would not be possible to reach an understanding and a fair solution. Alas, our political opponents are trying to maintain tension in every possible way. They are spreading rumors, one of which is the possibility of the forcible dispersal of the Maidan. This will not happen! Force will not be applied to peaceful protesters,” the premier wrote on his Web site on Wednesday night.

He asked all citizens “not to provoke law enforcement officials into clashes, to obey the law, to remain calm and not to fall for provocations.”
