Wow. They must have paid Tigipko a LOT of money to do this.
"We are offering our platform as a platform to unite all forces that want to make Ukraine a European country,"
Hah! I guess he meant an Asian basket case country.
Asia is much mopre democratic than that.
This will work agsint them. As we soon discovered when Our Ukraine tried merging with Peopels Self Defence. Their overall vote did not go up. Sure it stemed the tide of decline but that was all.
Proposed changes to Ukraine's el;ctopral law and the re-introduction of single member first past the post electorates will play into Party of Regions favour as the Party with the highest percentage of votes will win representation. they can win with less then 32% support whilst opposition forces remaine divided they take way votes from each other.
A solution to this problem is to introduce preferential voting.
How will this benefit the country? Azarov must be talking about Russia.
Tigipko is a traitor. He has lost almost all of his support.By signing up to the Party of thieves, he has officially made himself a member of Yanukonvicts mafia. There is nothing good for the country in this deal.
The Party name "Strong Ukraine" is in itself an oxymoron. That Party is anything but strong as they currently have support of only 1.3% of the Ukrainian electorate. Tihipko is only interested in self preservation, if opinion polls remain constant, as his Party would be shut out of the Verkhovna Rada in the 2012 elections. By joining The Party Of Reprobates he stands a good chance to remain in Government but his career as a rising star is all but ended. Ultimately, his fatal error for the sake of some kind of twisted glory was to accept a Ministry that was doomed to become most unpopular for the vast majority of Ukrainian voters. In any case it should give Yanukovych something to smile about for a change while he swims his daily 5 kilometers in his hot tub.
