The necessity to revise the gas contracts with Russia, on which Ukraine insists, is not connected with the Yulia Tymoshenko case, said Ukraine's Prime Minister Mykola Azarov.

"This issue is of extreme importance for us. We do not link it to anything," Azarov told reporters in Boryspil, Kyiv region, on Wednesday when asked to comment on Russia’s negative reaction to sentencing Tymoshenko to seven years in jail in the "gas case" trial.

Tymoshenko was found guilty of exceeding authority while negotiating the gas contracts with Russia. Ukraine’s current government claims that these contracts place Ukraine at a disadvantage and wants them to be revised.
