Kyiv, June 14 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Members of the Batkivschyna Party have reaffirmed that Yulia Tymoshenko is the leader of the party and elected Arseniy Yatseniuk as chairman of the party's political council during a congress on Friday night, an Interfax-Ukraine reporter learned from the party's press service.

Oleksandr Turchynov was elected as first deputy head of the Batkivschyna Party and head of the party’s main headquarters.

Eighty-seven people were elected as members of the political council.

The congress of the party also approved the decision to nominate Tymoshenko for presidency.

The congress adopted a new statute of the Batkivschyna Party, according to which the party leader, Yulia Tymoshenko, has to approve and sign the party’s decisions.

Tymoshenko’s address to the members of her party, in which she expressed confidence in Yatseniuk, was read aloud during the congress.

The press service also said that the Front for Change Party, which was headed by Yatseniuk, has announced its dissolution.
