You're reading: Biden: Russia will pay bigger price in case Donbas situation escalates further

The United States Vice President Joe Biden has said that the US is prepared to put more pressure on Russia if it does not honor its obligation to settle the situation in southeastern Ukraine and continues escalation.

Russia will pay an even bigger price and will be isolated, if these things continue further, Biden told a press conference held jointly with Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko in Kyiv on Nov. 21.

The global community is trying to influence Russia through sanctions, he said.

Had Russia honored its obligations and respected the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, then we could start rational discussions about the future of the sanctions, but it is not happening yet, the US vice president said.

He added that instead of honoring its obligations Russia has resorted to more provocative actions, to an ever greater disrespect for the agreement that was signed by Russia.

It was reported that Biden and his wife Jill are visiting Ukraine on Nov. 20-21. Biden is expected to meet with Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk on Friday night. Biden will also attend a roundtable that will focus on anti-corruption efforts in Ukraine.
