You're reading: Central Election Commission forms 225 district election commissions

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has formed 225 district election commissions for the upcoming parliamentary elections in Ukraine.

Such a decision was taken at a commission meeting on Sunday, Aug. 26, taking
into account motions submitted by five parliamentary factions on
candidates to be included in district commissions, as well as the
results of the draw among parties that nominated their candidates for
MP.

The senior personnel of 225 district commissions – heads, deputy
heads and secretaries – was announced at the meeting. The quotas of
parties for executive positions in district election commissions were
determined under the formula that was earlier approved in a CEC
resolution.

On August 24, the CEC made the draw among parties that nominated
their candidates for people’s deputies in order to include their
representatives in the composition of district election commissions. A
total of 81 parties out of the 87 that will participate in the elections
nominated their candidates to be included in the commissions.

According to the draw, 19 parties, most of which are unknown in
Ukraine, received the right to include their representatives in the
composition of district election commissions. At the same time, Vitali
Klitschko’s UDAR Party and Svoboda Party, which, according to
sociological studies, have a chance of overcoming the 5% election
threshold on party lists, received no seats.

Five parliamentary factions each nominated 225 candidates who, by
law, are obligatorily included in the composition of district
commissions.

Natalia Korolevska’s Forward-Ukraine! Party received the right to
include 223 candidates in the composition of district election
commissions.
