The Central Election Commission (CEC) has denied accusations of being biased in the formation of district election commissions.
“The Central Election Commission has formed district election
commissions in accordance with the letter and spirit of the law,” the
commission’s press service reported.
The statement says that under the law, political parties that
nominated candidates for MP are the subjects of the election process.
And such parties have the right to nominate their candidates to district
election commissions in all 225 electoral districts.
“Previously the CEC, in its proposals to legislators, filed a rule
envisaging that the subjects of the election process – political parties
– submit their candidates only to the district election commissions of a
single-member constituency, where they have their registered
candidates,” reads the document.
From August 22 to August 24, the CEC checked about 15,000 candidates
nominated by parties for inclusion in the composition of district
election commissions. This procedure was conducted in a short time, as
the law demanded that the draw be made by August 24 inclusive.
As reported, in accordance with the results of the draw,
representatives of the UDAR Party and Svoboda were not included in the
composition of district election commissions. However, some virtually
unknown parties that nominated a few or even just one candidate for
single-member constituencies received the right to include their
representatives in all 225 district election commissions.
