Up to 2000 people protesting the cancellation of social benefits to workers involved in the Chornobyl nuclear disaster cleanup have breached a fence in front of the Ukrainian parliament building and the number of protesters is growing.

The protesters previously stormed the building as the Berkut special task force tried to prevent them, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent has reported.

According to earlier reports, several people began to picket in Kyiv on Tuesday morning, protesting the cancellation of social benefits to workers involved in the Chornobyl nuclear disaster cleanup.

Among the protesters were representatives from different regions in Ukraine. No flags of political parties or public organizations were to be seen.

The parliament was paralyzed by members of the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc, who blocked the entrance to the presidium in the plenary meeting hall and put up a poster with the words "Freedom to Yulia!" over the presidium.
