The Kyiv Court of Appeals has upheld the decision made by Pechersky district court on setting a Hr 3.6 million bail as a preventive measure on former head of the Party of Regions faction in parliament Oleksandr Yefremov.

“The court of appeals dismissed our appeal,” Yefremov’s lawyer Oleksandr Melnikov told Interfax-Ukraine.

According to him, when passing judgment on March 2 the court of appeals failed to specify the grounds for its decision. The lawyer said that Yefremov’s defense had appealed against the decision of Pechersky district court as they had considered it unlawful and ungrounded.

As reported, Yefremov is a suspect in two criminal proceedings, on abuse of power with aggravating circumstances and forgery, and actions leading to the stirring up of ethnic hostility that resulted in the deaths of people.

On February 16, Pechersky district court in Kyiv decided to place Yefremov into custody and set bail at Hr 3.6 million. On February 17, the bail was paid by, as Yefremov said, his companion-in-arms and former Party of Regions MP Borys Kolesnikov.

Yefremov is currently under house arrest, he had earlier shown his electronic anklet to journalists.
