You're reading: Court to announce verdict on Ivaschenko on April 12

Kyiv Pechersky District Court will announce its verdict on former Acting Defense Minister of Ukraine Valeriy Ivaschenko in a case of abuse of office at 0900 on April 12, defense counsel Volodymyr Lebedev has said.

At a court meeting on Monday, the prosecution asked the court to sentence Ivaschenko to six years in prison and ban him from holding government posts for three years, without confiscation of property.

The defendant was brought to the court in an ambulance and participated in the debate while lying on a stretcher.

As reported, on August 20, 2010, the Prosecutor General’s Office opened a criminal case against Ivaschenko under Part 2, Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of power or office).

In November 2009, Ivaschenko signed a bailout plan concerning the sale of the property of the Defense Ministry’s state-owned enterprise Feodosiya shipbuilding and mechanical plant, including strategically important infrastructure facilities, including three moorings, bomb shelters and a building for the storage of mobilization reserves.

Ivaschenko is now in custody.
