Kyiv Court of Appeals will consider an appeal on Friday, July 29, at 1100 against a ruling of Pechersky District Court of Kyiv on the detention of former Head of the State Commission for Financial Service Markets Regulation Vasyl Volha, the head of the press service of the Union of Left Forces, Dmytro Zaborin, has said.

According to Volha’s lawyer, Oleh Korol, there was no reason to issue such a ruling.

"The ruling on placing [Volha] into custody was issued with obvious violations," the lawyers said, stressing that Pechersky Court did not stipulate the exact term of Volha’s detention.

Korol addressed the Court of Appeals with a request to cancel the ruling of Pechersky Court dated July 20, 2011 and allow Volha’s presence at a court hearing on his appeal.

As reported, Volha was detained on July 19. Pechersky District Court in Kyiv ruled to place him in custody for two months as a pre-trial restriction measure.

According to Acting Ukrainian Prosecutor General Renat Kuzmin, Volha is suspected of accepting a $500,000 bribe.

Volha was appointed the head of the state commission for the regulation of financial services markets on March 22, 2010.
