Pechersky District Court of Kyiv will continue hearing the criminal case against Ukraine's former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko on Aug. 18.

Judge Serhiy Vovk announced this decision in response to a petition by Lutsenko and his defense team to postpone the court’s sitting.

A petition was filed in connection with the fact that the lawyers of the defendants – Lutsenko and his driver Leonid Prystupliuk – were not ready to question the injured party, about which they learned in court on Thursday.

They were preparing for the examination of witnesses.

However, the court explained its decision to postpone its sitting by the fact that questioning of some representatives of the injured party without the presence of the others is a violation of their rights.

Not all the injured persons came to court on Thursday.

Thus, the court granted the motion and postponed the hearing until 0915 on August 18. The court also ruled that the tried would take place in Pechersky Court at 4 Haitsana Street.

The judge also said that they needed to settle the issue of the access of the trial participants to the case materials, which contain state secrets.

Lutsenko and his driver Leonid Prystupliuk were charged on Dec. 13, 2010 with the large-scale misappropriation of state owned assets, abuse of power and document forgery.

The former minister was arrested and taken into custody on Dec. 26. He is currently being held in a jail in Kyiv.
