You're reading: Defenders of Ukrainian language to keep night vigil outside Ukrainian House

Protesting against the law on the principles of the state language policy are planning to keep watch outside the Ukrainian House this night.

Leaders of the united opposition announced this at a rally outside the Ukrainian House, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent said.

The Front for Change Party leader Arseniy Yatseniuk has noted that together with the protesters Ukrainian lawmakers will keep night vigil near the Ukrainian House taking it in turns.

He also expressed confidence that the Verkhovna Rada under pressure from the opposition would return the language bill for second reading.

“Ukraine’s President Viktor Yanukovych has suffered today perhaps the greatest defeat over the entire time of his presidency. He has certain obligations, though I do not know to whom. Maybe to the Kremlin, or perhaps, to some spin doctors, but certainly not to the Ukrainian people,” the Front for Change leader said.

In turn, the vice-speaker of the parliament and deputy leader of the Batkivschyna Party Mykola Tomenko said that the opposition representatives were going to come to the walls of the Verkhovna Rada at 0900 on Thursday and to stage a rally there.
