You're reading: Despite reputation for honesty, intelligence, Hrytsenko bid stalls

As a military veteran, Hrytsenko is seen by supporters as a man that follows up on words with concrete actions.

They credit him for breathing new life into the ailing Ukrainian army forces when he served as defense minister from 2005 through 2007. While many Ukrainians say they like what they hear from Hrytsenko, he is seen as short of the charisma needed to propel Ukraine. From his campaign, it seems that Hrytsenko does not even believe in his own electability. Still, Hrytsenko gambles on what many describe as honesty and, ironically, gets only 1.3 percent of public support.
