The Ukrainian diaspora has met with representatives of the administration of U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington and discussed steps to respond to infringement of democracy in Ukraine, the Ukrainska Pravda online newspaper reported on Saturday.
According to the newspaper, the meeting was held on Friday at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which houses a majority of offices for White House staff.
According to the report, the U.S. authorities were represented at the meeting by Karen Donfried, Obama’s special assistant and the senior director for European affairs for the National Security Council.
“During the meeting representatives of the diaspora called on the White House to impose sanctions against Ukrainian officials. In particular, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Andriy Kliuyev and Interior Minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko were named at the meeting. Moreover, they also named Head of Kharkiv Regional State Administration Mykhailo Dobkin and Kharkiv Mayor Hennadiy Kernes, who, according to the diaspora, are involved in the beating of Euromaidan activists,” reads the report.
