European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule has welcomed the decision of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to pardon former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko and former Environmental Protection Minister Heorhiy Filipchuk.
I welcome the decision of the Ukrainian president to pardon Lutsenko and Filipchuk, he wrote in Twitter on Sunday. This is the first but important step aimed at resolving the problem of selective justice, he noted.
Earlier on Sunday reports said that Yanukovych pardoned several convicts, including Lutsenko and Filipchuk.
The Ukrainian State Penitentiary Service announced that Lutsenko was already released.
