BRUSSELS – European Jewish organizations have expressed their concern about the success in Ukraine's parliamentary elections of a "nationalist and anti-Semitic" party, according to a press release by the European Jewish Parliament, which was issued in Brussels on Tuesday.

“European Jews are greatly concerned about the news of the growing
popularity of a nationalist, racist and anti-Semitic party and its
success in the recent parliamentary elections in Ukraine,” reads the
press release.

The name of the party was not mentioned in the press release.

In this context, the European Jews expressed concern that there is “a real danger to tolerance and coexistence in Europe.”

“The Jews, who have always been the main target, were openly
persecuted in the streets, and now those who attacked them have received
a full vote in European legislatures. We are calling on all elected
democratic forces to strongly condemn, unambiguously isolate and
ostracize those who are seeking the revival of the darkest ideology in
European history,” the European Jews said.

As reported, following Sunday’s parliamentary elections in Ukraine,
the Svoboda All-Ukrainian Union will be represented in the Verkhovna
Rada of Ukraine for the first time. With 93.52% of ballots counted by
party lists, it collected 10.04% of the vote, and is also leading in ten
of the 225 single-seat constituencies with 88.9% of the votes counted.
Svoboda could get up to 40 seats in parliament.
