You're reading: European lawmaker: Ukraine may lose chance to sign Association Agreement with EU

Member of the European Parliament Pawel Kowal thinks that Ukraine has to do its utmost to sign the Association Agreement with the European Union in 2013.

“In the current membership of the European Commission (EC) there are many members who treat Ukraine favorably, for instance European Commissioner [for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy] Stefan Fule,” Kowal told a press conference in Kyiv.

In connection with this, the MEP stressed that Ukraine should strive for the signing of the Association Agreement in 2013.

“If it fails to sign the Association Agreement during this year, I am afraid the signing of the document may be impossible under the next membership of the EC, and interest in Ukraine will decline,” the MEP said.

He said 2013 was a decisive year for Ukraine in this context.
