The defense team of the former head of Lviv Administrative Court of Appeals, Ihor Zvarych, intends to lodge an appeal against his sentence with Kyiv Court of Appeals.

"We do not agree with the verdict, we will send an appeal within 15 days," Zvarych’s defense counsel, Stanislav Tsvetynsky, told reporters.

Zvarych himself declined to comment.

According to the ruling of Obolonsky District Court in Kyiv, the verdict can be appealed against by Zvarych’s defense within 15 days of the date of its announcement, and by the defendant himself within 15 days after the receipt of the text of his sentence.

Obolonsky District Court in Kyiv sentenced Zvarych to ten years of imprisonment and confiscation of all property.

In addition, Zvarych has been deprived of the right to hold any post in courts or to work in any executive position in government agencies for three years.

Zvarych was charged with taking large bribes.

The criminal case against him was opened in December 2008, and in March 2009, he was arrested.

He has been in custody since that time.
