You're reading: Ex-vice-premier Semynozhenko links his dismissal to problems in coalition

Former Deputy Prime Minister Volodymyr Semynozhenko has said that his dismissal is linked to the presence of problems in the parliamentary coalition.

He announced this in an interview with the Kommersant-Ukraine newspaper.

"My dismissal was conducted so that I was not in Kyiv and so that I, God forbid, did not come to parliament. The whole country knew that I was planning to unveil a museum to Taras Shevchenko ahead of Independence Day and that I will be in Kaniv all day long. My dismissal indicates that there are certain problems in the coalition," Semynozhenko said.

He noted that his dismissal had not been triggered by his initiatives as deputy prime minister.

As reported, the Ukrainian parliament dismissed Semynozhenko as deputy prime minister on July 2.

Semynozhenko was appointed vice-premier on March 11, 2010. He served as vice-premier in 1999, 2001-2002, and as science and technology minister in 1996-1997, 1997-1998. He was a lawmaker of three convocations.

Semynozhenko’s spokeswoman Maryna Petkova told Interfax-Ukraine on July 5 that he had been appointed head of the State Committee for Science, Innovation and Information Support.
