You're reading: Foreign Minister welcomes observers’ fair criticism

Foreign Minister of Ukraine Kostiantyn Hryschenko has called on international observers to stick to the Observer Code of Conduct and refrain from making premature assessments of the parliamentary elections in Ukraine due on October 28.

“Actually, all comments of international observers can be divided into two categories – those related to technical and systemic issues,” the minister said at a meeting with international observers and representatives of agencies and ministries interacting with observation missions.

Hryschenko assured the participants of the meeting that all technical drawbacks pointed out by observers would be eliminated by the Ukrainian side.

“At the same time, system-related issues are caused by some provisions of the Ukrainian election legislation,” he said.

In connection with this, the minister noted that the new law on elections was approved by both the parliamentary majority and the opposition, and reflects the opinions of all sides.

He added that Kyiv welcomes fair criticism, which is necessary for further development.

“However, we cannot accept some approaches, and unfortunately there are cases when some observers allow themselves to give premature assessments to future results,” he said.

Hryschenko called on all international observers to follow the OSCE/ODIHR Observer Code of Conduct.
