Former Crimean President Yuriy Meshkov was expelled from Ukraine in the early hours of Thursday, a source in Ukraine's law enforcement agencies has told Interfax-Ukraine.

Meshkov was sent to Russia by ferry from Kerch at 01.30 Kyiv time.

On July 13, the District Administrative Court of Crimea ruled to expel Meshkov from Ukraine and impose a five-year ban on his entry to the country.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) lodged a respective lawsuit in court due to the fact that Meshkov made statements indirectly calling for a change in Ukraine’s constitutional system.
