Solomyansky District Court in Kyiv has sentenced former Deputy Environment Minister of Ukraine Borys Presner to nine years in prison.
The court read out a respective verdict on Tuesday.
As reported, Presner was taken into custody in early June 2010 for two months. He was detained on June 1 for accepting a large bribe.
On June 2, the Cabinet of Ministers dismissed Presner from the post.
A pre-trial investigation established that in May 2010, the official demanded a $200,000 bribe and received a part of it – $100,000 – for backing the appointment of the head of the regional department of the State Ecological Inspectorate. A freelance adviser to the minister acted as an accomplice in the transfer of the bribe.
