You're reading: France’s foreign ministry calls on release of Tymoshenko

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France has called on Ukrainian authorities to release former prime minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko and meet all the conditions in line with the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on the case of Tymoshenko.

 “ECHR has issued the judgment of in response to a complaint from Tymoshenko. Following up our previous statements we call on Ukraine to take adequate measures in line with the judgment, which Ukraine obliged to take,” reads a statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France posted on the Web site of French Embassy to Ukraine on May 2, 2013.

The ministry said that thus, Ukraine will demonstrate its commitment to human rights and principles of rule of law.

“We call for the release of Tymoshenko. We have repeatedly expressed our concern about the unfair and politically motivated trials against the ex-premier and the other former Ukrainian officials, who were recently released,” reads the report.
