You're reading: Fuele: Opposition, Euromaidan must dissociate themselves from radical elements

European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fuele has once again said that Euromaidan protesters and opposition leaders must dissociate themselves from radical elements.

“Opposition and rally holders must dissociate themselves from radical elements,” he said during his speech at the EP plenary sitting in Strasbourg on Wednesday.

The politician said he talks about occupation of Ministry of Justice, and Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry.

Besides, the authorities are responsible for respecting and protecting the freedoms of speech, assembly and media, Fuele said.

“So far, too little has been done to this end: peaceful protesters continue to be detained, often injured, and sometimes [are taken] straight out of hospitals. Kidnappings and torture by unknown perpetrators continue to go unpunished,” he said.

In these terms the European Commissioner said the work of the Investigation Advisory Panel, as proposed by the Council of Europe, has to start immediately “s a step towards addressing the current atmosphere of impunity.”

“The de-escalation and stabilization of the situation is now the main priority,” Fuele said.

As reported, in late January Spilna Sprava (Common Cause) public movement activists seized the buildings of the Justice Ministry, the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry and the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry in Kyiv. UDAR Party leader Vitali Klitschko entered the Justice Ministry building and tried to convince activists to release the building, but his request was ignored. The national resistance headquarters described the seizure of the Justice Ministry as provocation.

Later Leader of Spilna Sprava Oleksandr Danyliuk left Ukraine. According to recent reports, he is in London.
