You're reading: Fule: Brussels hopes new Ukrainian government to promote European integration

The upcoming parliamentary elections in Ukraine will determine the prospects of relations between Kyiv and the EU, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule has said.

In the event of their success however it will be important for the Ukrainian government to take further practical steps on the path of European integration, Fule told reporters on Friday on the sidelines of the 9th Yalta Annual Meeting

“We would like you to have a government that intends to promote the agenda of relations between Ukraine and the European Union more actively and at the same time to address some issues that do not allow us to carry out everything that is offered,” he said.

Answering the question whether the EU-Ukraine summit will take place this year, the European commissioner said that the summit usually takes place every year and last year it was held in December. He noted that such a summit is important from the point of view of communications at the highest level, especially when both parties have come close to the signing of the Association Agreement.

Fule said that holding such a summit makes sense if it gives a positive impetus, as it was the case with last year’s summit.
