A criminal case against Ukraine's former Prime Minister and leader of the Batkivschyna party Yulia Tymoshenko on charges of abuse of power while signing of gas contracts with Russia in 2009 has been submitted to Pechersky District Court of Kyiv.

Investigator in charge of this criminal case Oleksandr Nechvohlod told this to Tymoshenko’s defender MP Serhiy Vlasenko, the press service of the Batkivschyna party reported.

"The case was submitted to the court with yet another flagrant violation of the Criminal Procedure Code and against common sense," Vlasenko said.

As reported, the ex-premier is charged with the misuse of funds received by Ukraine under the Kyoto Protocol, and abuse of office while purchasing Opel Combo vehicles against government guarantees.

The Prosecutor General’s Office in April 2011 opened a new criminal case against Tymoshenko on charges of abuse of power in the conclusion of 2009 gas contracts. The Prosecutor General’s Office believes that by signing the 2009 gas contracts with Russia, Tymoshenko inflicted damage to the state in an amount of over UAH 1.5 billion.

Pechersky District Court issued a ruling on May 23, 2011 to set Tymoshenko a deadline for studying the materials of the cases on ‘the Kyoto money’ and on automobiles for rural medicine. The deadline is June 25.

On June 7, the PGO said that Pechersky District Court gave Tymoshenko until June 16 (inclusive) to study the materials of the criminal case against her concerning the misuse of authority during the signing of the gas contracts with Russia in 2009.
