Former Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko could undergo medical treatment in Germany, German Ambassador to Ukraine Hans-Jurgen Heimsoeth has said.

"The Ukrainian side wanted to check whether there is legal possibility to treat Tymoshenko abroad. I don’t know whether they have the final result, although it seems like they do. I think such possibility exists," the ambassador said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

He stressed that attention should be paid to the fact that the events around Tymoshenko and other convicted former government officials have political motivation, and not legal.

"The least European requirements were neglected by the trials, which were motivated by elections and politics," the diplomat said.

Heimsoeth added that Germany realizes that Ukraine is experiencing transformations and admits that serious efforts are being applied in many spheres for the modernization of the government.

"But we will not allow tricking us. In the current situation the Ukrainian authorities should check what had happened during the compulsory transportation of Tymoshenko to hospital. The charges that have been announced must be investigated," the ambassador said.

According to the diplomat, Germany expects that Ukraine as a member of the Council of Europe and the European Convention on Human Rights will fully clarify the incident.

As to visits by German doctors to Ukraine, the ambassador assumed that they could take place in future.

"I don’t rule out that other visits by German doctors will take place, as the problems with Tymoshenko’s health remains unresolved, moreover it has become even more acute. Unfortunately, the Ukrainian side has been underestimating the patient’s health problem for many months," the German diplomat said.

Earlier, the Ukrainian authorities stated that the Ukrainian legislation does not envisage treatment of prisoners abroad.
