Canada didn't make an official offer to Ukraine to accept its F-18 fighter aircraft, advisor to the Ukrainian interior minister Anton Heraschenko said.
“I received a reply from the Canadian Embassy regarding ill-fated F-18 fighters. Canadian state has never offered Ukrainian state to accept F-18 fighters,” Heraschenko wrote on Facebook on Monday.
He said that probably some intermediaries or “God knows who promised something to somebody, but this question has never been raised on a state level.”
“All this mess reminds me a well-known story with an LNG-terminal and a ski coach,” the advisor said.
Previously, former deputy defense minister of Ukraine Leonid Poliakov reported that Canada had offered Ukraine several dozens of the F-18 fighters, however, the defense ministry refused of the aircraft.
He said that the reasons of the refusal were expensive equipment’s operation, as well as a long term needed to retrain the pilots for the work with new vehicles.
