Kyiv – The Justice Ministry of Ukraine has said that Ukraine has already taken steps to prevent the recurrence of the violations indicated in the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko's complaint against her arrest and detention.

The new Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine envisages a completely new procedure for choosing a pre-trial preventive measure in the form of custody, the procedure for challenging the preventive measure in court, its changing, revision and extension, which meets the requirements of the European Convention on Human Rights and the practice of the European Court, the press service of the Ukrainian Justice Ministry reported on Thursday.

“Thus, Ukraine has fully complied with the ruling in the case Tymoshenko vs. Ukraine, as there are no other obligations under this judgment,” the Justice Ministry explained.

The ministry also said that Tymoshenko is currently serving her sentence on the basis of a verdict that had already taken force and was not the subject of her first complaint to the ECHR.
