You're reading: Kazakhstan offers to host Customs Union-EU-Ukraine meeting if required

Astana - Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev has held telephone talks with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, the presidential press service reported.

The parties discussed relations between Kazakhstan and the European Union, with special emphasis placed on the situation in Ukraine.

“European Commission President Barroso supported Kazakhstan’s proposal for holding talks between the Customs Union, Ukraine and the European Union in Minsk on Aug. 26. An agreement was reached to hold a similar meeting in Astana, if required,” the press service said.

The parties discussed the prospects of Kazakhstan’s participation in the Asia – Europe Meeting (ASEM) process, whose regular forum is to take place in Milan in Oct. 2014.

The talks were held on the initiative of the European side.
