Kharkiv – Kostiantyn Sadovsky, the presiding judge in the hearings of the criminal case against former Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko on the activities of the United Energy Systems of Ukraine (UESU) Corporation, has satisfied a petition of the prosecution and ordered there to be a medical examination of the ex-premier.

“The case lacks official information on the state of health of the defendant as of today. Due to this, the court has no right to hear the case and make a decision on the closure of the case,” reads the court’s ruling.

Experts from Kharkiv regional forensic medicine bureau will conduct the examination.

They will have to give answers to the question of whether the ex-premier is suffering any diseases and, if she does, if these diseases are serious and require a long time for treatment, can her current state of health be an obstacle to her understanding and thinking over information expressing her opinion on the information, and if is she able to take part in court hearings.

If Tymoshenko refuses to undergo the examination, experts will have to base their conclusions on the available medical documents. In that case, the administration of the Kachanivska penal colony and Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 will have to provide the experts with copies of medical documents.

The judge also rejected the defense team’s petition for the closure of the criminal case.
