You're reading: Klitschko leaves Tymoshenko behind in presidential rating

  Vitaliy Klitschko, the leader of UDAR party, has placed second in the presidential rating leaving behind former Ukrainian prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko in a monitoring study 'Ukraine and Ukrainians" conducted by Socis center for social and market studies together with the Kuras Institute for Political and Ethnic Studies of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences.

Thus if the presidential election in Ukraine were held next week, 22.1% of voters would cast their ballots for President Viktor Yanukovych, 11.9% for Klitschko and 10.9% for Tymoshenko.

Also 7.3% would vote for Communist Party leader Petro Symonenko, 5.3% for leader of the Front of Change Arseniy Yatseniuk, 2.8% for the leader of Ukraine Forward party Natalia Korolevska, 2.5% for the leader of Freedom party Oleh Tiahnybok, 2.2% for the leader of Civil Position party Anatoly Hrytsenko and 1.2% for Social Policy Minister Serhiy Tigipko.

Less than 1% is ready to vote for former president Viktor Yuschenko, Economic Development and Trade Minister Petro Poroshenko and Verkhovna Rada speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn.

About one third of voters said they did not know whom they would vote for or whether they would go to the polling station at all.

The study was conducted on September 7-17. A total of 2,000 respondents were polled.

The next presidential election in Ukraine is due in 2015.
