You're reading: Klitschko on formation of democratic coalition: We cannot celebrate victory before the fight

The UDAR Party is ready to cooperate in a new parliament with the Batkivschyna United Opposition and other political groups that support the democratic development of Ukraine, but it is premature to sign any agreements before the elections, party leader Vitali Klitschko has said.

“First we have to win the parliamentary elections and defend our
result, and only then form a coalition. I believe that we cannot
celebrate victory before the fight,” the party’s press service quoted
Klitschko as saying at a meeting with reporters in Kyiv on Saturday, Oct. 20.

He said that UDAR was a European party that will act in line with European regulations.

Klitschko also said that statements by political opponents and some
colleagues in the opposition that he is afraid of something or someone
make him smile.

“It reminds me of the same statements that I hear from my opponents
in sport. Perhaps someone watched a lot of sports press conferences of
my opponents, and is acting according to the same principle. But we
should take into account what happens next. Because after statements are
made that I’m afraid of someone, it ends not so well for those who say
this,” Klitschko said.
