UDAR Party leader and WBC world heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko has said he sees no point in holding a pre-election debate with footballer Andriy Shevchenko, a candidate from Ukraine-Forward! Party (No. 2 on the list).

“We’re ready to debate with our opponent – the ruling party, the Regions Party. I see no point in debating with parties that currently have little chance of winning seats in parliament and overcoming the 5% threshold,” Klitschko said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday.

He said he was surprised at Shevchenko’s proposal to hold a debate on the development of sport.

“I was very surprised when I received an offer to debate on the development of sport. We do not want to enter into a debate. We have done it since 1996, when we founded our foundation,” he said.

Klitschko said that the Klitschko Brothers Foundation had opened a large number of sports grounds throughout Ukraine over this period.
