You're reading: Klitschko calls for sanctions against Ukrainian officials

Leader of the UDAR Party Vitaliy Klitschko has said that personal sanctions against Ukrainian officials should be introduced by the European Union.

“The seriousness of the situation makes me be perfectly frank. Only moral
support is not enough for us. Today we need the political expanding pressure on
the Yanukovych’s regime. This is first the application of personal sanctions
against officials guilty in violation of human rights and beating of peaceful
people,” Klitschko said at a meeting with Vice President of the European
Parliament Gianni Pittella on Saturday, the press service of the party
reported.

Klitschko also said that supporters of the European Union who are protesting
on the Maidan Nezalezhnosti Square in Kyiv are ready to stay there until their
requirements are fulfilled. He said that authorities could still have plans to
use force against peaceful protesters.
