BRUSSELS – The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine expects that an appeal against the conviction of former Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko will be considered by the end of the year, First Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Renat Kuzmin told reporters in Brussels on Tuesday.

"We hope that the appeal will be considered in December. We think that the process will be completed by the New Year," he told foreign reporters.

Kuzmin added that the court ruling could be either cancelled, or changed, or upheld as a result of the hearing.

"If the court ruling is upheld, it will take effect immediately, and Tymoshenko will become a convicted person," he said.

Kuzmin also confirmed that Tymoshenko would be immediately released if the conviction were to be cancelled.

At the same time, Kuzmin did not answer whether a ruling on Tymoshenko’s appeal would be pronounced before or after the upcoming Ukraine-EU summit, which is scheduled for Dec. 19.

"What are the terms for hearings in the court of appeals? It’s difficult to answer. That’s the court’s business," he said.
