Former President of Poland Aleksander Kwasniewski has arrived at Kyiv Court of Appeals to observe a hearing of an appeal of former Acting Defense Minister of Ukraine Valeriy Ivaschenko against his conviction by Pechersky District Court of Kyiv.
According to an Interfax-Ukraine reporter, Kwasniewski refrained from
commentaries at the sitting of Kyiv Court of Appeals on the Ivaschenko
case on Tuesday, Aug. 14.
At a preliminary hearing, the judge announced that Kwasniewski wanted to be present at the hearing of the appeal.
Earlier, Kwasniewski said that he wanted to attend court hearings of
cases against former official of the government that was chaired by
Yulia Tymoshenko.
As reported, on April 12, 2012, Pechersky District Court in Kyiv
sentenced Ivaschenko to five years in prison and deprived him of the
right to hold public posts for three years.
On August 20, 2010, the Prosecutor General’s Office opened a criminal
case against Ivaschenko under Part 2, Article 364 of the Criminal Code
of Ukraine (abuse of power or office)
In November 2009, Ivaschenko signed a bailout plan concerning the
sale of the property of the Defense Ministry’s state-owned enterprise
Feodosiya shipbuilding and mechanical plant, including strategically
important infrastructure facilities, including three moorings, bomb
shelters and a building for the storage of mobilization reserves.
