Moscow -- Russia is hoping the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and the Kyiv administration will promptly restore their relations, saying it would help restore the general economic and cultural space, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

“We would like relations between Donetsk, Luhansk and the Kyiv administration to begin to be restored as soon as possible, bearing in mind that the people elected in southeastern Ukraine have spoken for joint efforts to restore the common economic, cultural and political space,” Lavrov told a press conference on Friday.

Lavrov also spoke in favor of an investigation into the human rights violations committed in Ukraine. “We have pointed out the importance of conducting a public and impartial investigation into the human rights violations in Ukraine, including the tragic events on the Maidan, in Odesa, in Mariupol and other populated areas,” Lavrov said.
