Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine Serhiy Liovochkin has said that every country has a sovereign right to choose its election system and determine an election threshold.

"It is a sovereign right of every country to choose the election system and the threshold. For the first time the recommendations [of the Venice Commission] mention this, and Ukraine has the right to take this into account, but the lawmaker also has a sovereign right to ignore this," he told reporters in Kyiv on Tuesday.

At the same time, the head of the presidential administration said he hopes that MPs will take into account conclusions of all international institutions on the bill amending the law on elections.

"And when the president receives a new bill passed by the parliament, he will decide on his position regarding this document," Liovochkin said.
