TBILISI - Belarus and Georgia are able to lay a firm foundation for their future relationship based on strong trade and business ties, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said at a meeting with his Georgian counterpart Giorgi Margvelashvili in Tbilisi on April 23.

“We have no political disagreements. I am grateful both to the former president and to you that you have been supporting us in the West,” he said.

“We should have met in this legendary city and in this legendary country a long time ago. To my shame, it is my first visit to Tbilisi. I had never been to Georgia before, except for Abkhazia. But, I, as a historian, have read a lot and know a lot about Georgia,” the Belarusian president said.

The presidents are currently holding a one-on-one meeting in Tbilisi. Talks involving the Belarusian and Georgian delegations, as well as the leaders’ joint press conference will be held later today.
