Former Ukrainian Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko has stated that Ukraine is unable to protect its people.
"Ukraine is absolutely deprived of a possibility to protect ordinary and unordinary people," Lutsenko said on Friday in Pechersky District Court in Kyiv, which has sentenced him to two years in prison on the criminal case on the poisoning of Third Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko.
"This verdict is a verdict to the whole system. I promise you that despite the conviction and despite the fact that they will send me to penal colony soon, I will do everything I can to protect you from mafia," Lutsenko said.
He also said that he is sorry that Ukraine has "such a justice."
The court sentenced Lutsenko to a two-year imprisonment and forbade him to hold certain positions for three years.
The court also sentenced other accused in the case, former police officers Volodymyr Tarasenko and Oleh Pavlenov, to penalties of Hr 8,500.

The Judge in this kangaroo court should receive a 20 year sentence and be permanently barred from practicing law in Ukraine for this perversion of justice and for traitorous activity against the Ukrainian nation.
The penalty fit the crime. Lutsenko drank too much affecting his judgement, the fact is in law being a drunk is not accepted as an excuse when you mess up.
What are you trying to say Carl? It takes one to know one? Other than that your comment has absolutely nothing to do with the the so called trial of Yuriy Lutsenko.
