TOKYO - Ukraine is interested in the liberalization of the visa regime with Japan, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn has said.

"We are interested in the liberalization of the visa regime with Japan," he said at a meeting with Speaker of the Japanese Parliament’s Upper House Kenji Hirata on Thursday.

Lytvyn recalled that in 2005, Ukraine unilaterally introduced visa-free entry for all categories of Japanese citizens to Ukraine for a period of up to three months.

He noted that the adoption by the Japanese parliament of the decision to cancel the visa regime for the owners of Ukrainian diplomatic passports would be welcomed by Ukraine as a first step towards the further liberalization of the visa regime between the two countries.

In this context, the Ukrainian speaker stressed the need to establish permanent air services between Kyiv and Tokyo.

Lytvyn also invited to Kenji Hirata to make an official visit to Ukraine.
