You're reading: Martyniuk: Frequent elections saving Ukrainians from increase in tariffs for utility services

An increase in tariffs for housing and utility services poses no threat to Ukrainians in the next three years because of frequent election campaigns, Parliament First Vice-Speaker and Communist Party MP Adam Martyniuk has said.

“Parliamentary elections will be followed by presidential elections.
So let us hope that there will be enough common sense not to raise
[tariffs for housing and utility services],” he said at a press
conference on Thursday, while commenting on the opinion of experts that
tariffs for housing and utility services in Ukraine will not be raised
before parliamentary elections.

He recalled that President Viktor Yanukovych said in Kharkiv on
August 22 that tariffs for housing and utility services would not be
increased after parliamentary elections.

“I proceed from the fact that the elections in 2012 will be followed
by the 2015 elections. Now the elections are saving us. And you know
that people like elections, and I know that the media like them too,” he
said.
