You're reading: Melnychenko says he was ‘asked’ to leave Ukraine by Friday

A former officer of the State Guard Department, Major Mykola Melnychenko, has claimed that threats are being made against him.

"I was warned that I have time to leave Ukraine by Friday, but any later and I will regret it," he told reporters on Wednesday.

However, he did not specify who made threats against him.

Melnychenko claimed "a deliberate campaign is being conducted" against him in order to remove him from the investigative process as part of a criminal case opened against second Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma (1994-2005).

"There is a deliberate provocation – to knock me out of the investigation in order to prevent me from cooperating with investigators and intimidating me. Nobody will intimidate me," he said.
